    Halloween activities abound in Alachua County and this is your guide to spooky and not-so-spooky fun around the county this month. Have I missed something you’d like added to the list? Please comment below and I will add it to the list.

    Fun filled entertainment for the whole family. Young and old will have a memorable experience. Take a pleasant stroll down the spooky trail where you will encounter the things you only thought existed only in your imagination. There is a full 12 acre corn maze, with a theme and map to help you along your journey. On Fri. & Sat. nights from 8 PM to 11:00 pm. We invite you to test your fear level by trying to outwit the ghouls and creatures lurking within the maze. See if you are as brave as you think!

    Trinity UMC’s Great Pumpkin Run

    Join us for an evening of family fun at Trinity UMC’s Great Pumpkin Run 5K. The course will take you through the beautiful campus of Trinity United Methodist Church and surrounding area, and end at the Trinity Pumpkin Patch, where there will be refreshments, a bounce house, hayrides and children’s games. We will have prizes for the participants dressed in a Pumpkin or family friendly Halloween themed outfit. Proceeds from the race event will be used to support the Trinity United Methodist Summer Mission trip to Appalachia help make homes warmer, safer, and drier. Lace up your shoes, find you most festive pumpkin-themed gear and come run.

    From 4:30 until race start, enjoy the Trinity Pumpkin Patch, a bounce house, hayrides and children’s games.
    Get the whole family in the spirit of Halloween. Join us on Saturday, October 3 from 1-4 pm, for our Annual Great Pumpkin Crafting Event. Just $7 per 9” craft pumpkin, includes supplies. Offer available while supplies last.

    Screaming for Safety

    Screaming for Safety is a large, free public safety event that we hold each year during the National Fire Prevention Week. This event provides a safe place for children to dress up in their Halloween Costumes and Trick- or- Treat as well as a ‘one- stop- shop’ for safety information.

    During the evening, children and their families will visit each safety station. They will learn about different safety topics and have a card stamped when they complete the station. They have to visit each station to participate in the door prizes. During the event, they also have the opportunity to participate in a costume contest.

    The conservancy is not open to the general public on a regular basis, so this event is a rare opportunity for wildlife lovers to see our bats up-close.

    The bats at Lubee boast wingspans of up to 6 feet across. Guests will get to observe how the bats interact with each other, play with their toys and eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, a truly unique sight. The festival is a fun, relaxing and recreational experience for the whole family with free activities, including bat-themed crafts and games for kids, educational exhibits, bouncy huts provided by Space Walk and presentations by bat experts. All proceeds of the festival help support bat conservation and education programs.

    Every year Sun Country Sports Center hosts a benefit Halloween Howl-A-Palooza at our West location. Our staff will host an afternoon of play complete with carnival games, bounce houses, rock climbing, KidQuest indoor playground and haunted houses. Sun Country Dance Theatre will present numerous performances and outside will be Sun Country’s Gym Bus, train rides, sno-cones and pizza. In lieu of candy, goody bags and prizes will be awarded. Child-friendly costumes are welcome and encouraged. Proceeds go to March of Dimes.

    Boo at the Zoo

    Admission: 1 can of food per person. Canned goods will be donated to local food banks.

    Boo at the Zoo is Gainesville’s favorite Halloween treat for families. The students and staff transform the zoo into a spooky but safe trick or treat event for the whole family. Admission to the event is one canned good per person. Cans collected help two charities, Santa Fe Harvest and Catholic Charities, which feed families in need from our community.

    In addition, entertainment is provided by Danscompany of Gainesville which performs “Thriller” several times throughout the event. Also, Domino’s Pizza will be on hand to provide refreshments and food for a small fee.

    The zoo is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in order to prepare and transform the zoo into 16 different candy stations that will be decorated in themes from many different children classics and fan favorites. Bring a camera, past candy stations included characters from Cinderella, Super Mario Brothers or maybe Scooby Doo!
